How do I brush with braces?

Brushing with braces requires extra care to ensure the brackets, wires, and bands are cleaned properly. Here are some steps to follow:

1. Rinse your mouth with water before brushing to loosen any food particles.

2. Use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste to brush your teeth and braces gently.

3. Angle the brush towards the gum line and brush in circular motions on eachse your mouth with water to remove any loose food particles.

2. Apply a pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste to your toothbrush.

3. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to your teeth, pointing towards the gum line.

4. Gently brush the front surface of each tooth, in circular motions.

5. Clean around the brackets and wires using a small brush specifically designed for braces.

6. Angle your brush downwards to clean the tops of the brackets and upwards to clean the bottom edges.

7. Brush the back surfaces of your teeth.

8. Brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth to remove bacteria and freshen breath.

9. Rinse your mouth with water to remove the toothpaste.

10. Check your teeth and braces in the mirror to ensure you have brushed everything.

11. Floss your teeth using a floss threader to clean in between the wires and brackets.

12. Use a mouthwash to further freshen your breath and kill bacteria.

It is recommended to brush your teeth at least twice a day with braces and pay extra attention to cleaning around brackets and wires to prevent cavities and gum disease.
